A usual working day for me

until I found it interesting when

I received a slice of cake from a group of PRPs

with wishing card

and

I was surprised by my two colleagues,

one distracted my attention from

another one that was trying hard to light up candles on birthday cake.

But they in vain.

Anyway, I appreciated a lot for their efforts, making a big surprise for me!

Another call here

right before I finished my movie in cinema

from my secondary school mates

unfortunately, my phone battery died

Finding so hard to get phone lending my friend around

Receiving wishes one by one from them

It reminded me the same memory a few years ago

where the almost same group of them called to me

waiting for phone call from mum and brother

I felt frustrated after finishing my movie

I phoned mum purposely

yet, she didn't know it was my birthday.

I hinted her only then she realised

Brother called a while after I ended call to mum

'I wished in FB and SMS already.'

Anyhow, I appreciated his call in the end as

he gonna work for night shift and had to rest in daytime

I still remembered how reluctant I was when obtained posting in Sarawak

and it was last year.

grow up together with his or her companions

This is how people develop relationship (of intimate one for friendship) among each other

And there is such a feeling that

makes me to give up my appeal going back West

It appears to me that I started to accept the reality of staying back here

I miss my friends here

I miss every corner of this hospital

I miss anything and everyone here.

Yeah, for the moment, it seems so true for me that

it is a good opportunity

to spend the time before I am leaving for postgrads

at here

Perhaps,

I am not ready to leave my group of friends and neighbour here

for the moment.

Getting slowly that

my work has integrated into part of my routine life

Working more than the usual

even on public holidays and weekends

I seemed not really care about my personal time

rather,

I put most of my time on work

helping the others when necessary

It is a good thing

which I do not find it annoyed

but I feel willing to do so

as I believe I have the obligation & responsibility

to play a greater role

Our profession

yet not recognise as profession in public

And it is high time to wake us up

to stand for our profession

Let's not to be too calculative on any extra work

you may not get to see the results after your intervention

Yet, patient himself will really appreciate a lot in his own heart

and you may not know this

Let's cheer every moment you sharing with patients

and to let them know, We are ready to help them

I found somehow I am in this stage now

a workaholic - not the typical type

but really appreciate our profession

and contribute your love for the sake of patients

Since my last visit to Seoul,

I had fell in love with Kimchi,

a fermented vegetable with seasonings

Yet,

I have been looking around for the main ingredients,

Korea chillies powder

A short visit to Singapore

brings me such a surprise that I accidentally found it

in a korea store.

Without hesitating,

I searched online,

asked from people who made it before,

cooking books

Finally I got my own recipe from website

An easy way to make the most important ingredient

It was a deep silent night

my phone rang

and realised it gonna be a big deal!

Yet, the doctor started to say:

'Hello, may I know who is on the line?'

'Pharmacist Goh here'

'We have one patient here need to do TDM. Patient took 25 tablets of PCM'

While our conversation had not finish yet

my worries came in

'Am I going be alone walking down to hospital?'

Oh NO!!

I started to tidy myself

and hesitating to call for accompany

Yet, I ended up by going alone

It was scary

anyway, it was a great experience for me!

I didn't even wonder I would have such a big courage..

Kuey teow and Mee

It was a really annoying yet funny situation I encountered this evening

while I was ordering for my dinner in a hawker center in Sibu

Looking at the menu hanging on the wall of the stall,

the conversation began with:

来老板，你要吃什么？ 'What you want to order?'

炒粿条面 'Fried kuey teow mee.'

She suddenly stared at me and stopped her work in hand

粿条面？ 'Kuey teow mee?'

你要粿条还是面？ 'You want kuey teow OR mee?'

I insistingly said

粿条面 'Kuey teow mee'

She felt a bit annoyed, me too

你要mee kahwin是吗？ 'You want mee kahwin orh?'

'Mee kahwin?' -- a new word in my own 'dictionary'

是不是粿条掺面？ 'Keuy teow mixed with mee larrr'

Ok。。。Ok。。。给我一盘 'Okay...okay...give me one'

I went back to my seat

and started thinking back

'Kuey teow + mee is not kuey teow mee?'

From here, you can see the differences between West M'sia and East M'sia

the same thing may

have different name

totally have different look/presentation

Pending trips

It was a fantastic week though workload for this week was a bit heavy.

Staying back till 4am for booking air ticket was really an unforgettable experience

Still remember this Tuesday very very early morning

together with me is my colleague here, Charles

stayed alert together in my place for booking air ticket

Yet, Airasia really makes our dreams come true with offer of cheap air ticket

where EVERYONE can fly!

I was one of the lucky guys

who able to book for two trips:

To Yogjakarta-Bandung-Jakarta

and

To Cambodia-Vietnam

And, there was another trip to Hong Kong and Macau awaiting me this June

which I booked earlier, a family trip

Hope to gain some experience through these trips

which would change my perception towards the world

in which I would able to close to two of the seven wonders of the world

WHAT CAN A NEW PHARMACY GRADUATE CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS THE PHARMACY PROFESSION?

A title which sounds nice

but the range of writing is too wide

That is the title for

MPS-CCM Gold Medal Award for the best pharmacy student of the year

Somehow, this is not the criteria of getting the award

What I should write for a essay with 3 A4 pages long with Arial font of 11?

What was I busy with?

Before my blog get dusted,

I should report here

that what really I was busy with for the past few weeks?

Especially last week.

Again, I hope the following pictures would express what I would like to say about.

Since this few weeks, I was working on 5S(seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke) stuff.

Basically, it is all about decoration,

preparing the parcels and 3-D symbol of 1 Malaysia

These stuff are going to used for the ceremony of launching of UMP1M

'Ubat Melalui Pos 1 Malaysia'

People like to do things in the last minutes,

I was given order to do these stuff for this station last Monday

while me myself was in another station

running here and there

made my day exhausted

Between, there was misunderstanding among us

since we were in different stations

which made things worst

And everything was delayed to last Wednesday,

where I managed to finish all those stuff (parcel and 3-D model) in 2hours plus

right before 5pm.

The work didn't stop here,

for the last two working days,

contributing my time for the decoration after office hour

Again, people don't take initiative to take care of the place unless when someone is going to visit your place,

Working out for the board took me another two days,

with the help of some seniors and friends here

finally, it was done, in a rush.

I would say these are lame reasons

How you view your life aspect is of utmost important

Of course, everyone is not perfect

not excluded me as well

We cannot have everything being done with 100% of satisfaction

as we are not perfectionist

You might somehow find some little things

that make your day a good day

become significantly important

Not to say that we are not ambitious

but stand at your point

and think again

Time flew

Two weeks past silently

Well, I think I am getting adapted to here at Sibu

My reluctance of coming here

seemed to be not a burden to me

I would say I am finally relieved

Sibu,

a small town

yet, people here are simply kind

as kampung folk

the couple of householder for the house I'm renting is not excluded

my house here is almost, I would say is 99.9%, fully furnished

you name it, I have it here

TV? Yes

Air-cond?Sure

And how about fridge, washing machine, gas stove, sofa.....?

Of course, I have them here.

Now, you may think the rental fee must not be cheap

I would say: you are wrong, totally wrong,

It only costs me RM500 for the whole house with 3 rooms inside

Expenses over here would not be a problem for us

as a 4k-income government servant

you can spend like you are living in kampung area

RM2-3 you can get your stomach full

Yes, RM2-3...unbelievable

It would an advantage for me

as I can save a lot, hopefully is A LOT, of money

for travelling, my favourite hobby

However, Sibu is a boring town

no activity over here

Shopping? There are a few shopping complex, but the size.....

can't compare to West M'sia

Mostly consist of supermarket selling daily use

Hiking? Yes, so far I went for once

quite interesting, somehow

Beaches? Waterfall? Picnic site?

Nope.

Arghh!!

I get a shock response when my Sibu friends told me that:

Sibu people eat a lot,

spend weekend at home sleeeeeEEEPPP!!!

Haiz...you can imagine how my weekend past

mainly with drama and FB

Yet, not to forget to mention about cooking and painting...

At the airport

Seeing through the glasses

there are little planes outside

which I am going to fly in one hour time

Yes, I am now waiting for boarding in front of Gate 4

at Kuching International Airport

Somehow, there is mixed feeling

A feeling of excitement for the coming work

Yet, there is another feeling haunted me now

which is cons part

I think everyone from Peninsula of M'sia

or even in other country

would have a sense of missing home, for sure

The feeling is further enhanced when

you see a plane flying in the air, or

the condition like me now, sitting at the airport, or

maybe whenever people say 'airport' - kinda sensitive person

Hopefully, this 'Journey to the East' would be a great and a wonderful one.

Reasons

People keep asking me: 'Why you don't want to go Sarawak?'

'It is such a nice place'

'Think positively, accept it'

'You can try new life there'

'It isn't that bad as you think'

.......just to name a few

Well,

I can say I'm not that kind of coward person

which doesn't dare to try new things

Perhaps, I survived in Kelantan during my clerkship

To be posted in Sarawak,

I would say it is FATE

Here come I reveal the mystery behind my unwanted feeling about going there

I would sum up that all of the reasons are related to the precious TIME and

for sure, MONEY

You might say: 'Well, you can earn a lot if you work there with the extra allowance'

But the question is how well can the so-called allowance covers my expenses

I would like to know the answer

Let's look at my little 'annual budget' for 2011:

Flight (two ways) - Dec2010 (Brother's engagement ceremony) : RM600

- Interview for USM Scheme for postgraduate study: RM600

- Course for USM Scheme after interview succeed: RM600

- Feb2011 Chinese New Year : RM600

- Mac2011 Gold Medal Award Giving Ceremony: RM600

ILETS - English test for postgraduates study: RM570 (might be more expensive in East M'sia)

Expenses on settlement in working place: RM600

Monthly room rental fee: RM500 x 12

Monthly expenses: RM300-400 x 12

Monthly money sends back to Mum: RM1000 x 12

Kuok Foundation loan: RM150-180 x 12

I guess the number tells you the story.

Just look at the part 1,

I need to spend about 4k on flights and test

Who can support me?

Not to say about the part 2

Till now, you may say: 'How come you judge everything by money?'

Yet, it is true, somehow

However, it would not be the main problem

A bigger problem is TIME

I gonna waste time a lot

for travelling back for those interview and course

for delaying the time changing from PRP (Provisional Registered Pharmacist) to FRP (Full RP)

And it is hard to take leave simply,

as you know I am 'new comer'

And waste energy as well

being tired for sure

as travel a lot on boring plane or bus

Of course, if I am giving a chance,

I would like to have my PRP practice over West M'sia, at least

My plan to travel to Japan next year might spoil

as money is going to be spent on those mentioned above

For those REASONS,

I am reluctantly to go East M'sia

I hope people will not misunderstand on this matter in future

It was annoying

Maybe I am not good in ‘hiding’ my feelings sometimes

I just want to express it purposely

Yet, I know it may not be the correct way to show someone innocent your bad temper

I know I am this type of people

I have tried to accept myself for being like this

but in vain

And I believe I will continue to act like this, anyway

I loss control somewhere

Sometimes little stuff would enough to ‘kill’ me

People say:

You must have a high EQ instead of IQ

Or at least achieve some balance, somehow

I think I am not of any type mentioned above

However, I would say: a mediocrity for me

Not being the high IQ type

yet, not being the kinds of low EQ group

and I learn to not to overwhelm by ‘devil’ in everyone mind

I believe everyone is learning with me at the same time

Just that I would mistreat myself as ‘novice’ every times ‘bad temper’ visits me

which make me a de trop person,

sometimes not in other eyes

but in my own eyes

It was a month ago while I was waiting bus transfered to my granny house at Aulong.

That was what I saw

A woman which we usually called them auntie, with two children beside her

walking across the drain

and dropped the bottle in her hand just like this

meanwhile the dustbin is just a few steps from the point she threw her little tiny rubbish
Ermm...how would you think about this kinds of act?

'Auntie, please-lah throw it into the bin-lah...just FEW STEPS only-lah'

Sometimes I really cannot tahan with these kinds of people

I will get frustrated for sure

You can help to save our earth with your little energy to walk towards the bin and throw it..

in a bookstore

of the Taoyuan International airport in Taiwan

A lady was reading and

standing close to a promotion corner

intentionally

she knocked to the shelf

and books fell

Surprisingly

a promoter from the bookstore

came approaching her

And what you guess would happened after this?

With smile grinning from ear to ear

he picked up the books on the floor

while asking her

'Are you OK?'

'Do you get hurt?'

To reply no,

she shook her a while

And the promoter left away after arranging the books back to the shelf

If we were him,

I would really think that

the first thing we will do is

to express our unsatisfactory

Oncology

My patient

He was 59 years old

Being diagnosed of colon cancer

underwent surgery, radiotherapy,

and now

undergoing chemotherapy

I can see his smile on his face

He was kinda optimistic

He had confidence in himself

that it will be cured

This kind of spirit

is vital

for supporting himself

physically and

mentally

Admitted to hospital few days ago

and being discharged this morning

I had did my best to counsel him

and I pray hard for him and also

the other patients

with a lorry

bringing all the stuffs

Yet, it is almost full

The problem starts the moving down

unloading all the stuffs for all ladies

First times sitting on lorry

moving our stuffs to my 'lovely' hostelNow it comes the time for a short shop after settling down all things

No surprise

but it really surprises me that

the counters actually divided into

2 parts:

Male and Female

And I get another 'heart attack'

when I'm on my way to the restroom in a mall

Again, this is what I really get shocked

It is acceptable with the last two signs

But

the female sign with LONG sleeves

and LONG blouse

is totally and simply a surprise!

A news about the unsuccessful of getting the student exchange program

Strike into my heart

Why am I the one not being selected?

And, to make the matter worse

that I am just at the border of disqualification

I lost my mind

I lost my reaction

Subsequently

The new watch as past birthday gift from brother

Freshly reached my hand

But unfortunately,

It cannot function as it should be

I opened

And fixed

But still in vain

At last

Electric breakdown

Blackout

Accidentally I dropped mum’s phone

The screen broken

Cannot be read it anymore though still functioning

What is happening?

Are these challenges arranged by God?

Why am I the one to be challenged?

Or should I blame myself of not being the best?

if your toilet bowl built inside or together with bathroom

they find their landing site

which can reach 6 feets from the bowl

which they can easily get close up with

the ONLY way is to cut our salary

they aren't that cruel to chase us out

How can you survive with this in the BIG city?

Somehow we think of going to service in Borneo

will surely get EXTRA RM1000

Yet, the rumour isn't truth

What you get is, again

not the so-called regional allowance (RM1000)

but ONLY elaun perumahan wilayah (EPW)

which it is just additional money to support

accommodation

which is given according to area

The very Korean style tableware

A special drink..compliment....it tastes like diluted coffee, it is nice!!

Banchan or side dishes are served as you finished order....compliment and refillable.....My love one, Kim Chi...

Now, the charcoal is ready for BBQ

These leaves are used to wrap the BBQ meat..the bottom one is called sesame leave..it has mint flavour..

The top one is pork belly and the bottom is squid in red paste (samjang)

After the meat is ready, it has to dip with the two sauce (soy sauce and sesame oil) and put onto those leaves together garlic, green chilli and red paste...

Nice?

Sam-gye-tang or Ginseng chicken soup is another highlight in Korean cuisine...inside the chicken is glutinuous rice...

Last but not least, the dessert..watermelon and special honey barley...it is nice...맛있는

The Richest city in old days

Why the richest? Sure, it is rich for nothing but petroleum…but that is old story…
Seahorses, the symbol for Miri…I think the existence of seahorse in sea around Miri makes Miri the city of seahorse…You can find the Great Mr Seahorse in new Marina Bay in the seaside…Breathtaking scenery!!nice view and nice food…they serves Italian cuisine in antique house by the side of the sea…

Actually, Miri is our transit point for our journey to Mulu National Park…Paiseh to Yun Yen…Indeed, she and her family treat us nice and warm…especially her mum Hakka style dishes..Delicious!! Oishit!! Thank you aunty and uncle!!
Mulu National Park, I will never forget You!!! You can travel to Mulu either by Maswings for 30mins or by car and then boats for 10hours….Which one would you choose?Of course, the former la…
A let-down to Mulu is that our packages didn’t include the Famous Pinnacles (5D4N package)…You may ask what is pinnacle? Check it out!!

Not bad, our trip to Mulu included the largest cave in the world – Deer cave, where you can see those nasty bat and bat shits…Of course, Abraham Lincoln’s profile is another attraction…On top of that, other famous caves include Lang cave, Lady cave, Clearwater cave….
Our moods in Deer and Lang cave are spoiled by the ‘cats and dogs’…As they ‘rained’ the Mulu. Luckily, it rains after our visit but we had no chance to view the bats coming out from cave for food…I had to say we have a great time running in the rain!! Wet though with umbrella….haha…
On the way to Clearwater cave with boat, we stopped at Penan long house purposely for its morning market selling not food but craft…We bought a lot here…I get a special flute here..It is so extraordinary…It is blown with NOSE…sound like so Orang-Asli…

Moreover, I get some flat hardshell nuts, again, it is not for eat but for massage…
Our last stop at Clearwater cave is a river, where we spent our noon there having our lunch and swims there….COOL!! I mean the water…It is clear but not crystal clear as the way it should be due to the rain.
Nevertheless, we have to come back again for the pinnacles…for our guide – Khairul…Ah Keong, Mat and many of them over there…

To make the matter worst, our tour in Mulu become more ‘FUN’ with 2 strangers, talkative uncle and aunty…LOL…headache!! We are not only in same tour in Mulu, but also in same plane for leaving Mulu and also Sarawak…

He is an artist as well as a poet and musician…
I was impressed by his masterpiece placed around the hotel lobby…And I did have a chance to chat with him for a while and not forget to take a photo with him…
He is basically origin from Scotland but stay in New Zealand…graduated from an art school and now he is a full-time artist…He was invited by the hotel manager to come over for 8 months…actually, he has a mission on his own – he gonna to draw a painting about Sarawak that is specially for the state for tourism…Below are some of his great work…mainly oil and charcoal paintings…

I found a specialty in each city of Sarawak – each of them is symbolised, whether it is an animal or food. We have cat for Kuching, swan for Sibu, pineapple for Sarikei, Seahorse for Miri….
Swan and Sibu? You may ask why both are related...of course, it comes with a stories, perhaps a legend….in old days, swan taught people in Sibu learned how to make sago from the sago trees during starvation…That’s why in Chinese sago is named as ‘Suo Er’, 硕莪, ‘Er’ means swan…
Sibu, indeed, it is a different from other cities…Fu Zhou culture makes it distinguished from them…You will found that the food, language, culture are totally different…
‘Ang Zho Bak’ is famous dishes among Fu Zhou folks…Besides, Midin (paku-pakis), ‘Ang Mo Loi’ (shells) and ‘Ding bian Hu’ are specially found in Sibu…Most of the mentioned food are served by Chung Eng’s family…Thanks for that!!Unforgetable…
If you never try ‘Gong Bia’, you are never been to Sibu…RM1 for 5 of it, cheap and nice!! Those with meat and other contents such as kaya taste better!!
Actually, there is not many places to visit in Sibu except ‘Tua Pek Gong’ temple, ‘Jiang Bing’ garden…But you can buy many things (local products), namely pepper (quite cheap compared to Kuching), tebaloi (Sago biscuits), Bario rice, dried kolo mee, sago (instant snack)… Sure, I get a lot of pepper from there, Emm..almost 5kg for about RM100…1kg kolo mee and some tebaloi…Damn heavy!!

This is only seen in Sibu Bazaar...Cute!

Don’t expect to buy souvenir here as they are much more expensive than Kuching and most of them are imported from Kuching…Regrets!I don’t buy enough from Kuching as thinking will get cheaper one in Sibu...
With 6-7kg of my stuffs, I continued journey to Miri with ‘lou-yah’ (old) bus…8 hours, it took my time, energy, mood away...Lousy roads with no lights…Doing nothing on bus besides chatting…

Actually, this tour is really packed but full of fun & joy..
Food in Sarawak is a bit different from west M’sia. I still feel that west food tastes better for same dishes found in Sarawak….Sarawakian, don’t blame me..for instance, laksa and rojak..Laksa would taste like our Curry Mee, but with aroma of variety of spices..Perhaps, you will taste it better if you don’t treat it as our laksa

On the boat to opposite of Kuching waterfront - DUN & Fort Magherita

Our ‘tour guide’ is nobody else but Su Ee, my junior…responsible, nice, friendly….as well as his friend, Handsome….haha..
In Kuching, we have a great time especially in Bako National Park & Sarawak Cultural Village…

Bako is really a very nice place to visit..a MUST-visit place…though there are also others national parks
We spent 2D1N in Bako…What so special about Bako? Of course, it is special for its weird-shaped stones and Proboscis monkey (long-nose monkey)…You pay RM35 per boat and you can have a ride around the seaside…
Awesome…you must come to see them all yourself, purposely for the cobra-shaped stone standing still in the sea
A walk to Telok Paku & Telok Delima provides you the greatest chance to view the Proboscis monkey…if you are lucky…I did have this chance but just can’t see it nicely barely with our eyes…perhaps, binocular can help
Besides, you can find some cute and special creatures around Bako, such as Pitcher plant, one-handed crab, wild board, fish with legs…just to name a few..
Great sunset, where you can share with your beloved…but friends, too…

Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) is not uncommon for all travellers to Sarawak…you may be shocked with its entrance fee of RM60 for adult..haha…but with that price, we can spend for 4 peoples…Why? Cause we are students…so happy to be a student…Remember ask for student price when you travel to any places…
Here is a journey where you can have a view of all kinds of the Orang Asli houses at once: Orang Ulu, Penan, Iban….Everyday they will perform for you their culture in forms of dances, mostly. At the end of it, you are invited to go up stage to have a dance with them…FUN!!Our ‘Siao Cha Bo’ was being invited by the performer to have a try on using blowpipe as he was attracted by her laughter..

Nope…I was not that nervous…It was nothing difference compared to a bus, instead, it was just an airbus..
So fantastic…my first tour in east M’sia involves air, water and land…
Fly:KL-Kuching, 2 hours
Ferry:Kuching-Sibu, 5 hours
Bus:Sibu-Miri, 8 hours
MASwings:Miri-Mulu, 30mins

The Best Steak in Town

'The Ship' , a restaurant I heard it since my first year of my University life....
Now, 3 years later, I try it...

Actually, I have a high hope of trying good steak over there..

As saying goes, 'Tak Try, Tak Tau'...

I can't find any interesting point except its SHIP look...

The food is a let-down for me...Not to taste bad, but it is common with uncommon price...

Not to say all are common..It still has some specialties, perhaps the sauce is different from others

The cheapest one is RM20++...

I would not highly recommend for it..But you can try....at least you try 'the best steak in town'

*Its toilet is damn XXX....quite scarry as well..
